The 3D optical metrology unit - 3DOM of the FBK Trento concerns itself with accurate 3D measurements and reality-based 3D reconstruction problems. Amongst its special areas of expertise: Geomatics - Industrial metrology - Cultural heritage recording - Underwater photogrammetry.
A consolidated know-how has been acquired in the development of metrology solutions and 3D mapping methodologies for geomatics and geospatial problems. Terrestrial, UAV, aerial, underwater, and satellite photogrammetry as well as triangulation and time-of-flight laser scanning are among the investigated techniques.
The research group is devoted to industrial metrology, geospatial data analyses, sensor and data integrations, environmental monitoring, 3D change detection, derivation of metric & semantic information from images and 3D data, mapping and surveying, geomatics algorithms design and implementation, mobile mapping and SLAM, GIS and cartography applications, cultural heritage documentation & digital preservation, development of VR/AR solutions.
3DOM is involved in various optical metrology projects with the goal of providing innovative 3D inspection and monitoring solutions leveraging the latest research and development methods for:
We apply different optical metrology techniques, mainly based on photogrammetry and range imaging, structured light, laser scanning, multi-view photometric stereo and thermal imaging. We integrate and develop innovative sensors and techniques upon state of the art methods also based on artificial intelligence to deal with:
